Happy New 2009!

It's officially a new year and I'm starting this blog a newly married woman. I am back from my wedding and back from traveling with the new husband through Taiwan. There, he was lucky enough to meet at least half (if not more) of my family. It's been twenty years since I have seen them and it was the perfect reunion to end the year with.

And with every new year comes new goals! I can start with the goal I set for myself every single year which is to stay fit and healthy aka lose the 10 lbs. gained from the holiday season (this one comes and goes throughout the year, but it will happen) and then I get into the real personal goals (in no order of importance!):

being a loving and supportive wife (who keeps on top of the laundry)
spend more time with family & friends
continue being creative and being challenged to improve on being creative
build my business and expand my networks
launch the new website and blog - so keep posted!

I've decided to keep it short and sweet this year...although personal goals come up quite often through the year, it's good to start off with at least a few to accomplish! And with the first post of the new year, I'll leave you with the January 2009 cover I shot for Parenting Magazine.

This is officially the last post of 2008...I'll be traveling through Taiwan the rest of the year. James and I had previously discussed his future modeling career the first time he was in front of my camera. Gotta tell you - he is good. His secret? Jelly Belly Jelly Beans...yes my friends, this superhero's weakness are those little gobs of goodness. I know I've mentioned a few times in my blog that I just have been so lucky to have the best couples to work with...well Heather and John are one of those couples. The one thing (of the many things) that I love about them is that they love to laugh and they have this uncanny ability to be able to laugh at themselves, which is what I'll have to admit is what I'm known for amongst my friends too. So, there's the connection between Heather, John and I....plus we are also connected by the fact that I was mistaken for paparazzi and they were my Brangelina couple! During our photo sesh, we made some friendlies with the local tourists.

Can't wait for more shenanigans in June!!!

The only way that I could think about describing James is that he's just a boy. But not just any boy - he is a boy who loves his moms & pops, who's favorite super hero is Wonder Woman, loves to wear his Batman tee, and moonlights as Superman from time to time...and could possibly...POSSIBLY model for one of those department store catalogs (aka JC Penney, as we discussed during the photo sesh). I have been a bad blogger...definitely bad. But it's all good now. I'm officially married and with the wedding plans all taken care of, I can focus on catching up! Things are looking up in 2009 - a new website under way and then a re-vamped blog, so keep checking in for progress reports!

With that said, I'm in a bit of a wedding hiatus now - switched gears and now it's all about families and the holidays! So to start off...I'm going to blog about the Avila family. I love them (and it works out that Momma Avila is my best friend) and I get to photograph them every year. They've appeared a few times on the blog, so you can check up on the Avila family and how they've become a family with baby in tow!

I met Carly through my best friend. The minute Carly and Kurt stepped through the door, I just knew we'd get along excellently. Carly and Kurt have been together since high school and it's awesome that there was still that...connection when we met up in Laguna for their engagements. Alaina is one of the cutest little babies I have ever met. She instantly smiled for me the minute her car door opened. And the best thing about Alaina? 2 more months and there will be a beautiful, baby boy in the world! I met Kim and Chris through the future-hubby. They are one of the funniest couples I know and I was flattered when they had asked me to take photos of them in their home. Aside from all the fun we had shooting around, they also live in a historic home that is freaking amazing, so as you can imagine, this photo shoot was full of personality! And to their baby boy...your parents will teach you how to love and laugh and those are some of the most amazing gifts ever...welcome to the world.

If you lived in Las Vegas...where would you tie the knot if you wanted to do something different? California, of course! I met up with Jenn and Scott at the St. Regis on a Thursday night. It's definitely a different scene, shooting a wedding on a Thursday - it was so cool. They had scheduled a small ceremony (there were only 6 people present, one of them being me) right on the beach. I love intimate weddings because you get to really know your bride and groom. The site, the ceremony, Jenn and Scott...all went together so well on that Thursday night.

What I love about my brides & grooms is that I get to see them again when they refer me to their family and friends. That's exactly how I met Kristen and Robbie. I was introduced to them by Robbie's sister & brother in law, whose wedding I photographed years ago. Kristen and Robbie had a destination wedding in Hawaii with a few close friends and family, so they decided to go BIG back in Orange County with an awesome reception at The Red Horse Barn. I loved seeing Michelle & Eric again and then to meet their new addition, baby Ava!! It was like a family reunion for me! Congrats Kristen and Robbie!!

Would you take a photo if we did the human pyramid? Ummmm.....yeah!?! What is not to love about a bunch of grown men in tuxedos climbing on top of each other to form the human pyramid?? I knew this wedding was going to be awesome. Brooke and Matt made my job as their photographer so easy...they were game on for anything and even wanted to explore the grounds of the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club. Check out the laughter-filled day!

I knew I'd like Janna and Thomas the minute they said hello. I thought quickly in mind that I recognized the slight hint of an accent in their hello. Then it all made sense when I heard that Thomas was from Mineola, NY. What the heck is a guy from Mineola doing in Southern California?? Wait...what is a Plainview girl (aka me) doing in Southern California?? It was awesome meeting someone from back home...it was almost like visiting old friends, know what I mean?

I la-la-la-love Jen and Ray. They are one of the most awesome-est couples I know and you want to know why? Because they are so in love with each other...and it's obvious. It was a gorgeous afternoon in Dana Point when I met up with Jen in her room...she was so calm and excited, I loved her for it. That's how it should be when you're marrying the man you want to spend the rest of your life with, right? Jen and Ray made me excited about love...over & over again. Beautiful...the entire day was just beautiful. Oh...and the details were amazing...all handmade and from the heart... Like I said...you can't not love them!

As I stood on the deck of the building with all of my camera gear, I could see her walking towards me...Oh my God...I'm nervous as hell...I hope I can pull myself together... A few weeks ago, I met up with Gabby in Laguna Beach. Gabby was visiting California from Spokane, Washington and wanted something different for her high school senior photos...so where do you go when you visit California? The beach! We spent an hour exploring this newly discovered (at least to me, it was undiscovered before we discovered it) beach and it was so much fun! It's hard to find a beach here, in the sweltering summer heat, that is very empty...and our mission was accomplished! Check her out!

My Morning with Lindsay Davenport

A few weeks ago, I was on assignment at the Carson Home Depot Center, photographing one of the tennis greats...Lindsay Davenport. Being an avid tennis fan, I was seriously in awe and couldn't believe that I was standing on the same court as her and that a few days after that, she was headed to Beijing for the Olympics. A few Monday's ago, I met up with the Flynn's beachside. That's where you go when you're vacationing here from Arizona and Tennessee. And what better way to celebrate a vacation in California, than with photos? Dressed in their best beach-ness, off went their shoes and letting the sand get all in between their toes...chased the waves in and out...and they just enjoyed. What a great vacay...

3rd Annual Fair Fun & The Birthday Week!

Every year, the future hubby and I make it a point to go to the OC Fair and this year, it was noooo different. This year was special though...I had two photos entered into their contest and I received an honorable mention for one of them! So, the fam went to the fair: momma, me and the future hubby...and of course, we stopped for some fried, fried food and just some good ol' fair goodness. Check it out...

Hard to believe, but in the same week, I had a free weekend!! The future hubby took me to the Getty on Saturday night and there we experienced Global-tronic: a plethora of music artists from Buenos Aires and Argentina...one of the most fun-nest experiences we have ever...experienced!

The weekend wound down with another surprise! We were headed to the Seal concert at the Pacific Amphitheater! Again, another awesome experience!

Oh yes...we decided to forget taking your typical photos and let a pro do it for us...typical...I know!

And to top the birthday week off...Roscoe found a present I received from a friendly friend I know...

I met up with Jen and Ray a few weeks back, in one of my old stomping grounds (and coincidentally their old stomping grounds too!) aka The Fun Zone/Balboa Pier! I can say so much about this couple because I la-la-LOVE them to death! There are endless amounts of awesome-ness to Kristen and Robbie, who I met up with a few Monday's ago. For starters, Robbie is the brother of Michelle, who married Eric - a bride and groom of mine from a while back. The second great thing about this couple is their eclectic style and their awesome idea of going to Watson's Soda Fountain. I don't know about you guys out there, but a piece of my heart belongs to Huell Howser, who travels around California, visiting some random places. One of his visits involved Watson's Soda Fountain and like all greatness, comes following - and so...I followed....to Watson's. There, I re-discovered my long lost love for root beer floats and also had a chance to shoot Robbie and Kristen, sharing a shake...a milk shake, of course.

Can't wait to see you guys in August! Have a rockin' time in Hawaii!

As a child, you're always asked what you want to do when you grow up...for me, I never was sure...until college. I always thought I'd be a doctor or a lawyer (or at least Mom always thought that) but when I was in college, I finally discovered myself - I wanted to be a photographer. And when you've finally figured it all out, you're asked to set goals...yes, there is more to do. One of those hefty goals that I set a while back: to be published and whaddya know...my first cover! Erin and Ryan are heading up my blog updating today and what an awesome couple to start it off! Destination: Lake Las Vegas, in the middle of Henderson, NV. ROAD TRIP! They met when they were in school in the Philippines...and then they met again years later. It was fate and definitely one of those meant to be moments! I met up with Emily & Tito in Palm Springs. They had an amazing and intimate ceremony in Cathedral City, which was then followed by an even more intimate dinner at Le Vallauris, an amazing French restaurant in Downtown Palm Springs. What made it most amazing was its location, a hidden gem behind the touristy skyline of Palm Springs life. Tucked away from it all, what you get is one of the most beautiful places to photograph! Dominque & Houston at the Queen Mary!

I absolutely looooove the Queen Mary - you just can't get a bad shot, even if you tried. I spent last Saturday with Dominque and Houston at the Queen Mary and it was absolutely fabulous. They had a swing band, dressed the part (with an outfit change during the reception to boot!) and everything - the Queen Mary decor worked with the entire them and it all came together. LOVED IT. And a quick shout out to Liberace...he rocks my world haha.

It has been quite a busy year so far, so when I told the future-hubby that I had a free Saturday coming up, his wheels started to spin and I knew there was an adventure in store for us. This Saturday, we decided to further explore LA via the Red Line subway, taking us all the way to Universal City & North Hollywood. When it really comes down to destination vs. purpose, we decided that our destination was a cowboy bar in Universal City. Purpose: have a few cocktails (and a free shot, courtesy of our very nice bartender) and make the train trek back to Orange County. An awesome trip indeed, mission accomplished.

On Sunday, I met up with Katie Mahoney for a photo shoot down at Balboa. The Faris sisters: Hannah, Ellie and Ava...I'd have to say, some of the cutest girls I have photographed in a long while. They were so fun and sassalicious. They knew how to work the camera and I was very impressed (it has taken me almost 30 years to work on the sassalicious part of my personality). I've been waiting for months now to meet up with Amanda & Alex again! They are one of the most super-duper-fantastical-awesome couples that I get to shoot with this year! We met up in November for their engagements and this time we met up for THE BIG DAY. OH YEAH! The day was absolutely beautiful, you can't ask for better weather in Palm Desert in March! The best part of the day was when they deemed me an "official photo dork." It brought a tear to my eye. I had an awesome time and you two were wonderful!

A few Saturday's back, I met up with the always fun Bethany and Ryan at the Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert. Despite the strong winds during the ceremony, they were up for facing the cold weather to get some much needed awesome photos outside (and let me be the one to tell you, it was cold...my fingers froze over which made it quite hard to take photos, but then again I'm a bit of a wimp in cold weather). Guests came from near and quite far, and they partied all night long! Cheers to an awesome couple!

What words can I use to describe this great girl? Funky, awesome, unique...Cheyenna met up with me on a Saturday afternoon and left me to do my thang and we worked it like it was never worked before. She was amazing, I can't say that enough and we had so much fun. When I first heard: "I'm nervous..." I thought, "Oh no...." The minute I had my lens to her, she was a fricken' pro. I couldn't have had a better model. High-five to you Cheyenna! I'm your girl anytime!

Brunch with the Balboa Angling Club

The Balboa Angling Club was kind enough to invite me to photograph their 2008 Awards Brunch in Newport Harbor on a sunny Sunday morning back in February. It's an annual event in which anglers of all ages come together for breakfast and some leave with an award recognizing their angling adventures of the year past. It was a pleasure getting to know everyone and even learning more about angling (the only thing I know about fish is sushi!)!! Back in February, I finally got to meet Claudine and Joe at Arbor Terrace in Fallbrook. Claudine and I had met over email and have been communicating for months about her wedding! It was such a pleasure to finally put the emails to a face! They were called Go-Go, which was fitting as their last names were Gonzalez and Gomez (I wish I would have thought of it myself!). Cruising in the Newport Harbor...

I thought it would be fun to post a photo from a Newport Harbor cruise I was on in mid-February. It was so much fun and whaddya know? There was a "pole" there...now, now...I know what you're all thinking...it was not that kind of cruise. Spa services and a pole-fitness demonstration were also on board, so there was much fun to be had. Who doesn't love driving to the middle of a woodsy area (aka: the middle of nowhere) in the whereabouts known as Malibu? Gotta love la vida loca that we live! I met up with Rebecca and Adam there at The Calamigos Ranch. The twisty little roads opened up to this oasis of woodsy/great outdoors/awesome place! I loved every minute of exploring and found it to be one of the most picturesque places to have a wedding. And the best thing was: the bride and groom fit into this picture perfectly. With an awesome wedding party to boot, the day was just amazing!

Ms. Nancy if You're Nasty...

Ohhh...how I love Janet Jackson! And that love also goes to Ms. Nancy of Belle Amie. The beautiful Ms. Nancy gave in to the pressures of a photo shoot and before we knew it, we were all over the streets of Costa Mesa. We decided it would only be for a little while. And an hour or so later, we were walking back to the studio in the dark. We shot in places that I've always wanted to shoot when I was living in the area (i.e. the laundromat, oh yeah). Meagan and Dax...my favorite couple of the year, so far. They were seriously a breath of fresh air and a great way to really start off 2008. I met up with them on a Sunday afternoon in Santa Monica and we walked our way to the beach - conveniently enough, they lived only two blocks away from the surf. We passed by their favorite chicken place and I was even introduced to their favorite java spot. They are taking the leap a few weeks before I take mine, over on the East Coast, so good luck with wedding plans & if you ever need a photographer on an everyday basis, you give me a call!

Happy New Year!!! 2008 is great!! And the best way to start of the year...to shoot someone! Er....not shoot someone, more like photo-shoot someone! Duh!! Ahhh...the wonderful-ness of Ms. Katie M. Katie and I met sometime last year through a mutual studio and hit it off almost immediately. We had this brilliant idea to take pics of each other by the studio, back in my old hood! Oh yeah! It was pretty funny at first, getting used to being in front of the camera, but in seconds, Katie was a natural. We got some pretty cool stuff, so check it out! Oh yeah...here's an important note: photographers are photographers because those that photograph cannot be photographed.

It's a white Christmas! 7am: the sounds of little kids feet running rabid through the house, tearing open gifts & screaming for joy over what they got from Santa (well...let's say most of the kids really liked their presents)! The pandemonium was all day long...from being in our jammies to checking out the Wii, putting together all the kid toys and more checking out the Wii...well, you can see where I'm going with this.

Amidst all the Wii'ing, we stopped mid-afternoon to take part in the annual Christmas 40-yard dash: this consists of my future brother in law and my future husband running 40-yards in the freezing cold. Now, this is serious business, for all those people out there that have no idea - they measure out the distance, mark their starting and end points, check the stop watch and bring out the winner's plaque...yes, there is a winner's plaque. The highlight of my trip was this race. As I was standing in the middle of the cul-de-sac, waiting for my brother-in-law to come out of the house, I see the garage door opening....and there he is....in all of his glory....wearing a bright blue Captain America costume, holding a boom box blaring something Rocky-esque. It was an amazing sight, despite the cold that was quickly overtaking my face. I know...you don't believe a word I'm saying, so instead, I'll just go straight to the photos...and yes, they are family now.

A White Christmas...Eve

Day three in Utah and man, the cold is now a permanent part of my disposition (or at least I think it is). It is a white Christmas Eve and according to weather reports, a new storm is coming into town. YIPPEE - I have been feeling like the Michelin Man for the last two days, why not just go with it?? I'm up at 7ish and I join the congregation down in the kitchen: the adults are desperately seeking out strong coffee while the kids are busy shoveling down their take of junkie cereal (for Christmas, of course...otherwise, they'd be having Special K). It looks cold outside.

The men were setting out to the Gateway, a mall that has been build around an old railroad station. This railroad station was my future-dad-in-law's second stop in America, when he immigrated here with his family. So, he showed all the boys a bit of his past. Of course, you can't let boys out of the house without them stirring up the locals! The future-hubby had one of my cameras with him and he decided to play his favorite camera game: Papparazzi! They worked it out so well that shoppers were convinced there was a movie star amongst them. A concerned shopper even offered to step in front of the camera to protect the privacy of my future-brother-in-law! It was too funny...we reviewed the images...and they were quite convincing, I must say. Check it out:

Utah - Day Two: Sundance, YouDance, WeAllDance?

Up nice and early, thanks to a few kids who flew into our room (who will also remain nameless for now). That gets you right up, like a nice cup of espresso in the morning. It's a Sunday, not just any other Sunday, but the Sunday before Christmas. On today's itinerary: Sundance! I hope I sees me some movie stars! While on the way to Sundance, we had visions of streets filled with shopping and Starbucks (okay, I had visions...just ME) and we soon realized that we were thinking of the wrong place. Sundance is a snow resort owned by Robert Redford, of the Indecent Exposure fame, and it's absolutely beautiful (and cold). The cabins there are so unreal (and cold) and there were also artists' cabins to visit too (that were also cold). After touring the cold, um...I meant the grounds, we decided to seek out a place that had hot food. Oh yes my friends, we did as we usually do: we found a bar. One piece of advice to all though readers thinking about visiting Utah in December: when washing your hands, use the hot water, because the cold water...is very cold.

The future hubby watched the Bruins lose to Brigham Young the night before and had to rub it in to his Bruin friend (aka Adam) back home, so we stopped at BYU's football stadium before heading home and had a bit of a photo moment...check it out:

Back to the Bat-Cave and we were ready to partay! A small little gathering of family friends and kids, and before you knew it, we were playing around all night long. Bottles and bottles of wine later, I managed to sneak a pic of one of the boys enjoying breakfast for dinner (my type of meal!):

Utah Day Three is manana: Christmas Eve. This is where tradition starts to play a role in the holidays. Christmas Eve consists of the mens being mens and the women in the kitchen. We're kickin' it old-school! More tomorrow!

Mission: Roadtrip - Utah

It was 5:15am and the future-hubby and I were zipping up our last suitcase when we got the call from the future-in-laws..."...we're on the way...." At 5:30am, the car pulled up in the parking lot and in a matter of minutes, we were getting on the 55 freeway. Destination: Draper, Utah. According to our GPS mapping guide, it was a 9 hour car ride. Have no fear, we were prepared: Mom-in-law packed an awesome sammich lunch while Dad-in-law handled the road and the hubby-to-be was in charge of reading material - a book on tape, Into the Wild. The read of choice was amazing and it traveled with us (coincidentally, of course!): when we were in Southern Utah, so was our book and when we were traveling through the Mojave Desert, our book was there. We made awesome time and along with three pit stops (for coffee, pee breaks and a little walk), we were seeing snowcapped mountains in no time!

Four hours later, we were in Draper, Utah, visiting the future-sister-in-law's family. Their family consists of four rambunctious, fun-loving rug rats, who of course, greeted us at the front door (actually, they had their faces pressed up against the windows, which was even better!). After settling in and overcoming the initial excitement, the adults were off to Salt Lake City via the choo-choo, for a little excitement and adventure of our own (of the drinkable type, if you know what I mean). One stop to make as a tourist before getting down to the nitty-gritty:

A quick stop at the Salt Lake City Mormon Temple, a fly-by (more like a stare-through-a -window moment) of a wedding reception and then it was off to a beautiful Martini bar, Kristauf's, in the downtown Salt Lake area. Kristauf's taught me that in Utah, you must be a private member to have a cocktail of choice! But before that, the hubby-to-be and the future-brother-in-law had to make sure they made their appearance in the background of the CBS 2 News newscast. Yes, they think they're famous (more to come in future blogs).

It was an awesome road trip and an awesome first night out on the town. Looking forward to capturing more of the fun (and chaos) of our Utah trip in the next few days! Tomorrow: a free day (no itinerary yet, but looking forward to sleeping in!).

And did I fail to mention in my post that it is friggin' freezing in Utah. This California girl should have brought more sweatshirts and some snow shoes!!

Palm Springs, Part Deux: Amanda & Alex

Minutes after Ryan's modelesque photo shoot, we jumped right back into the car and headed down Highway 111 to meet up with future husband and wife team, Amanda and Alex. With about 30 extra minutes to spare, we took the kind of scenic route....right up to the gates of the Monterey Country Club. Amanda and Alex walked up hand in hand...ahhh, young love, it's just so yummy. They met through mutual friends (isn't it awesome to have friends that think of you??) and have been together ever since. Meeting someone and then getting to work taking their photos is definitely not an easy task - you never know who you are working with - but they warmed up nice and quick and before we knew it, we were all laughing in no time!

Palm Springs, Here We Come!

Last week, Katie and I had planned on heading out to Palm Springs for an engagement session. A few nights before, I got an email about head shots for my friend Ryan. Ryan is an awesome real estate agent in Palm Springs and he needed some new pics for his website. Thursday morning, Katie and I packed all our photo gear and overnight clothes and headed out nice and early (with a quick stop at the coffee shop, of course). We made awesome time and found ourselves people-watching outside the Follies theater...we watched some lady try to scalp her front row tickets!!

Go Towards the Light...

Amidst wedding dress shopping and Cirque du Soleil: Corteo, Randy and I decided to spend some "us" time deciphering the meaning of the bright lights across from the 405 freeway. TBN: Trinity Broadcast Network is the building sucking up all the electricity in Costa Mesa. You may not notice it during the day but it's definitely not hard to miss when the sun goes down. So, we got bundled up (it does get cold in California) and made the trek over the freeway through the lit gates of the TBN.

We were greeted by over a ba-gillion volts of electricity and I highly doubt there was a naked tree in sight and better yet, there was a neon sign on the front door that said Open. What do you know? We entered!

And we saw!

I would have to say that I have always wondered about this place and I'm glad we got to explore. Along with the ornate-ness of it all, it was like Las Vegas; sans the slot machines and the all-you-can-eat buffets (we made sure, we asked)...but in Orange County!! And of course, we couldn't help ourselves but to mark the voyage with a photo of ourselves:

It is absolutely awesome to have friends who are photographers! Katie and I decided to have a shoot-out down in Balboa with our other photographer friend Greg and his girlfriend Jessica as our models. Tracy and Dave in Huntington Beach

Turning 30 with Matt

Our friend Matt turned 30 yesterday and the hubby-to-be and I headed down south to San Diego to help surprise and celebrate with the birthday boy. We were told it was a surprise and to be there at 1PM. We pulled up at 12:58PM and low and behold, the birthday boy was early...and staring right at me from the car (I was standing in the middle of the street...hardly noticeable, of course), while the hubby-to-be dove behind the parked car. All in all, it was kind of a surprise!! Other friends showed up and before you know, it was a PAR-TAY (who the heck turns 30 quietly?).

From Minnesota to Palm Springs to the Salton Sea

Sigh...I am still trying to fight off the first-weekend-off-in-a-long-time blues. The future hubby and I decided to make the best of Palm Springs this past weekend! Our first order of business for the weekend was breakfast with Paul and Papa Huggie. Papa Huggie was visiting us from Minnesota on his way to Arizona. Randy and I anxiously awaited their presence outside of Rick's Diner...I decided to take a test photo:

It was the first time I had ever met Papa Huggie (but not the first I have heard of him). He lived up to all of my expectations and blew me away...he was so much fun and such a great person. Sitting across from him at the breakfast table at Rick's, I realized that Paul was almost a mirror image of his father, from their eyes to their ways of story telling. It was truly a great experience. Here's a great photo of what I'm talking about:

Paul and Papa Huggie had a long drive to Arizona for Grandpa Huggie's 90th Birthday!! I hope they had fun and it was a pleasure meeting you Papa Huggie!!

After a bit of poolside relaxing, Randy and I hopped into the truck with my camera equipment and headed out to the Salton Sea! When we asked the gas station attendant how far it was to the Salton Sea, he gave me a strange look...like he was thinking "...why the heck would she want to go there??" 45 minutes later, we pulled over on a street named Marina Drive and found ourselves looking at the Salton Sea.

Strange how you can find beauty in places so deserted...

90 miles outside of Palm Springs, we found ourselves in driving through the town of Niland into another town called Slab City. Right before you enter the town, you are greeted by Salvation Mountain. No words can explain what we saw...except for the words: weird, bizarre, holy cow...

Leonard Knight is the artist who brings this to Slab City. It is his tribute to God and his gift to the world, with the message: God is Love. Getting out of the car, after driving through the nothingness of the Salton Sea, this was the brightest scene we had seen all day! It was like we had walked right into the Green Eggs and Ham-acid trip-part Disneyland world that Dr. Seuss writes about.

(Handsome devil, isn't he? HAHA, get it? Devil...God...Salvation Mountain? My sad attempt at humor gets me sometimes...)

And not to mention the FAB photos that Randy was able to grab!

The Inn of the Seventh Ray...Robert Downey Jr. said it is one of his favorite secret spots to have dinner. This is where I met up with Sharon and Neal. They planned an intimate wedding and reception for about 30 of their closest family and friends, all flying in from Canada and Europe. During their ceremony, each guest took out a stone, made a blessing and left the blessing stones for the couple. It was a great night, spent with great people and great food! As most everyone knows, my boyfriend and I recently got engaged! We decided to celebrate by heading out to Oktoberfest! SO, this past Sunday, the fiance and I grabbed our lederhosen and our steins and made our annual sojourn to OKTOBERFEST Phoenix Club. Where else in the world can you drink all day, eat greasy food, dance in shorts and shoot guns? Yes, let's say it again: OKTOBERFEST. This year marked a great Oktoberfest, my family met the fiance's family and it was one of the rare times where my future father-in-law had all of his siblings in one place (there are 6 of them). It was one of the best experiences ever! I look forward to many more family Oktoberfest outings!

I had the greatest pleasure on Sunday hanging out with the Burke family, which included three rambunctious (and freaking cute!) kiddies named Thomas, Paige and Riley! Tonight, I met up with Gina and Corey at the Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel. They decided to get their engagements done by the beach...getting ready for their October 6th wedding at the La Quinta Resort in Indian Wells. Cupcakes Anyone?

Last night, I met up with a few friends for dinner and cocktails (aka happy hour) at On the Border in the Tustin Market Place. It was awesome: half price scooner house margaritas and $1.00 tacos. YES: ONE DOLLAR tacos. There was one conversation that came up amongst our group that was wedding-related (one of my girlfriend's is a soon-t0-be-bride) and I'm telling you, the discussion became heated!! Cupcakes or wedding cake? If you were a guest, what would you prefer (if both the cake and cupcakes were the same quality taste)? ME? I'm a cupcake girl...it's less mess (okay, not really) and it's got more options (more options)! You have to love your options! As for my friend Tom, he was extremely adamant that cupcakes were a horrible idea. And he was SERIOUS. A wedding, in which Tom attended in 2006, left a bitter taste in his mouth when he found out he was being served a cupcake, rather than a piece of wedding cake. He was so adamant, that he refused to attend another wedding, if there were to be cupcakes served. Future brides and grooms: TAKE NOTE - no need to invite Tom to your wedding if you are serving cupcakes! Save yourself the invitation and additional plate of food. =) Tom...this blog is for you...Fupcakes!

Last night, I had an awesome time with Francesca and Jay, sneaking around the interior of the Ritz Carlton and hanging out by the beach with them. They drove in from Redlands and were so excited to rock and roll! Francesca was a real sport, climbing through rocks and running through the hotel with her hair done up and her wedding dress on! I'm glad we had this time together, as they were soon preparing to leave for a 2-month trip through Europe! I am so jealous as it's that time of year where I start to get that travel itch! Anna-Marie & Harry's La Jolla Coastline Wedding

Anna-Marie & Harry's event marked my first "during the week" wedding. Monday also marked the couple's ninth anniversary! It was so much fun. I headed down to La Jolla with my friend and photographer Tammy. She had also brought another friend from Georgia, Eileen, another photographer. From Orange County, we made the 1 1/2 hour trek to La Jolla, which was definitely well worth the drive! Cuvier Park aka The Wedding Bowl, along the coast of La Jolla, was intimate and beautiful. The sun was overhead (in the perfect place, of course) and the sound of the ocean was inviting. You just couldn't ask for a better wedding day. The night ended with fireworks from SeaWorld! Happy Anniversary and Congrats on the wedding Anna-Marie & Harry!

A few weekends ago, I had the honor of photographing Kelley & John's wedding at the Long Beach Museum of Art. It was a beautiful location, looking out onto the Pacific Ocean. Ceremony and festivities under the moonlight! We learned that Kelley & John have AKA's: Scrabble and Baywatch. Kelley, known for her Scrabble playing skills and John, a Newport Beach lifeguard - makes perfect sense! The reception ended with a great "day-of" video from their awesome videographer, Daniel, at DV Artistry.

Destination: Catalina Island via the Catalina Flyer out of Long Beach. It was an early morning as I walked through the doors of Long Beach's Catalina port. I looked forward to spending the day with Kristy and Josh, experiencing their special day at the Catalina Country Club with some close friends and family. When I arrived at the Catalina dock, it was a short walk up to the Country Club - it was beautiful! 40s inspired and open air, I knew it was going to be a beautiful wedding and reception. One of the most unique moments of the wedding was at the end of the reception, when Josh (wearing a floor-length beer can belt) and Kristy walked their departing guests to the Catalina docks to bid them farewell!
